I’ve been neglecting this blog lately. I was working on a piece but it wasn’t coming together, then there was Christmas, then New Years, and the piece is still not working. Instead today’s publication is the sixth in the series of “Beyond Racer Road” articles originally published in Cycle magazine in the 1970s. The new story on the blog-site is a re-publication of the fifth of a series of “Beyond Racer Road” stories from the late 1970s Cycle magazine. This one is Cook Neilson’s recounting of his and Phil Schilling’s adventures in the 1976 racing season. You can find it on the page VM. Beyond Racer Road 5 – the Hot Rod is Born.

My page about the Evolution of Style has generated numerous comments. One very detailed comment came from Steve McLaughin, one of the most respected racers at the time the hanging off style started. This week’s story is a nostalgia piece for me. It’s about the special allure of a club raceday back in 1974-1975 time frame. This will bring back memories from the folks who were there back in the day, and I hope it will give the younger folks and non-racers a bit of the feeling of the special excitement of a raceday.
