Hailwood, Ducati & The TT

Today’s page is the second part from our guest blogger, Patrick Slinn. It is the story of Mike Hailwood’s Ducati victory in the Formula One TT race at the Isle of Man in 1978 from someone who was intimately involved. See the page VD. Hailwood, Ducati, & the TT, part 2 of 2.

Hailwood, Ducati, and the TT

The latest page added to this blog is from a guest blogger. It is the story of Mike Hailwood’s Ducati victory in the Formula One TT race at the Isle of Man in 1978 from someone who was intimately involved. See the page VE. Hailwood, Ducati, & the TT, part 1 of 2.

The Final Beyond Racer Road Article

I’ve given up on the club-racing article I was working on and instead republished an article from Cycle magazine. This is the last of the Beyond Racer Road articles. And I had to cheat to get this, the 7th in the series. This one is about a Superbike BMW, not a Ducati, and the guest author, Kevin Cameron, was Cycle’s technical editor at the time. Look for the page VK. Beyond Racer Road 7 – The Making of a BMW Superbike or click the link.

Beyond Racer Road 6

I’ve been neglecting this blog lately. I was working on a piece but it wasn’t coming together, then there was Christmas, then New Years, and the piece is still not working. Instead today’s publication is the sixth in the series of “Beyond Racer Road” articles originally published in Cycle magazine in the 1970s. This one reveals the dark secrets of the 1977 Daytona-winning Ducati. Look for the page titled VL. Beyond Racer Road 6 – Dark Secrets Revealed or click the link.

Beyond Racer Road 5 – the Hot Rod is Born.

The new story on the blog-site is a re-publication of the fifth of a series of “Beyond Racer Road” stories from the late 1970s Cycle magazine. This one is Cook Neilson’s recounting of his and Phil Schilling’s adventures in the 1976 racing season. You can find it on the page VM. Beyond Racer Road 5 – the Hot Rod is Born.

Fourth Installment of Beyond Racer Road

I’m still working on the story of our Barber 2016 trip. In the meantime I’ve re-printed the fourth of the Beyond Racer Road series of articles from Cycle Magazine. This one is from 1976. Look for the page VP. Beyond Racer Road 4 – A Four Square Two Stroke.

Race Gear – Then and Now

I published the page October 18th but failed to make a post to announce it. Duh. The story is a comparison of racing gear commonly used in the 1970 versus what I see the Superbike and MotoGP riders using today. Look for the page “Race Gear, Then and Now.”

Beyond Racer Road 3

Today’s new page is the third of a series of articles Cook Neilson wrote in Cycle magazine back in the 1970s. Look at the page titled “VQ. Beyond Racer Road 3 – Overdog!” The first two articles are here as well, on pages “VW. Beyond Racer Road 1 – the Toe Gets Dipped,” and “VU. Beyond Racer Road 2 -Learning the Craft,” respectively.

Beyond Racer Road, Part Two

Cook Neilson describes a season of club racing the Ducati 750 GT, and reveals some hop-up tricks to get more horsepower from the motor. He also becomes a better road racer. Republished with Cook’s permission. See the page VU. Beyond Racer Road 2 – Leaning the Craft.

Club Racing Classes

A reader of this blog suggested a comparison of club racing classes from my era with classes today. I dug out my old AFM rules book from 1979 and then downloaded the 2016 AFM rule book. Hoo boy. Things have changed. See the page VV. Club Racing Classes – Then and Now.
