A few people have asked me how I got started racing Ducatis. A good question. My first race bike was a 250cc Ducati Diana, a small single cylinder bike. I describe how I chose that particular model on the page WL. Why a Ducati Diana?
This week’s blog story is a collection of experiences with tires. The basic theme is: tires can make a big difference. See the page WN. Tires Matter.
There was no story this week. I started writing one, a good one, and when I got to about 500 words I thought this sounds too familiar. I looked at the early stories and found that I had already done that one. Whoa.
There are now over 60 stories in this blog, in simple chronological order, most recent first. There’s no organization — it’s just a long list. It needed some kind of index, so I made one instead of writing a story. Of course it took much longer than I expected.
I’ve named the index page “An Index” so it will stay at the top of the page list, while the most recently added page will be listed just below it. Each new page will result in a new entry in the index. Hopefully this will help people find stories they’re interested in, and will keep me from putting in a story that’s already there. Take a look at it — the first couple of paragraphs explain how to use it. You may find a good story that you haven’t noticed before.
This week’s story is a street ride remembrance. It was one of my favorite rides from back in 1997. Look for the page “YQ. The Hawk, the Harley, and the Hurricane.”
On another subject, I just heard that Wester Shadric Cooley, the father of Wester Steven Cooley (2-time AMA Superbike Champion) just passed away at age 82. Wes Cooley the elder was active in the American Federation of Motorcyclists in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Both Wes Cooleys are featured in the page titled “ZA. Fathers and Sons.” Next week’s story will of Wester Shadric Cooley, and a bit of AFM history as well.
I updated the “Fathers and Sons” page to add three families who somehow were left out of the initial story last week. But the main announcement of this post is to announce this week’s page, titled “YZ. In Memory of SSMark.”
October 9, 2014. Yesterday evening I got the crushing news that my friend SSMark had been in a motorcycle accident and suffered head injuries he is not expected to recover from. SSMark appears in several places in these stories, notably in “WetLeather pt 2 – the Gather” and “WetLeather pt 3B – the BB100 Race.” I had been wondering what to publish next in this blogsite and that clinched the deal — it’s the story of a ride he led with Ln, Havoc, Dahlface and me way back in 1998. Look for the page titled “A Ride in the Desert.”
