VM. Beyond Racer Road 5 – the Hot Rod is Born

This is the 5th in the series of articles labeled “Beyond Racer Road.” Cook Neilson tells the story of his and Phil Schilling’s 1976 racing season. There were only four AMA Superbike races that year — Daytona, Loudon, Laguna Seca and Riverside. The races were dominated by the BMW team, who won three of the four.

This article has only a couple of photos, including a nice one of Phil giving Cook a push start. There’s lots of text, but it’s Cook’s text so it’s really good. The article originally appeared in the February 1977 edition of Cycle magazine. Reprinted with the author’s permission.
