Beyond Racer Road 3

Today’s new page is the third of a series of articles Cook Neilson wrote in Cycle magazine back in the 1970s. Look at the page titled “VQ. Beyond Racer Road 3 – Overdog!” The first two articles are here as well, on pages “VW. Beyond Racer Road 1 – the Toe Gets Dipped,” and “VU. Beyond Racer Road 2 -Learning the Craft,” respectively.

Beyond Racer Road, Part Two

Cook Neilson describes a season of club racing the Ducati 750 GT, and reveals some hop-up tricks to get more horsepower from the motor. He also becomes a better road racer. Republished with Cook’s permission. See the page VU. Beyond Racer Road 2 – Leaning the Craft.

Club Racing Classes

A reader of this blog suggested a comparison of club racing classes from my era with classes today. I dug out my old AFM rules book from 1979 and then downloaded the 2016 AFM rule book. Hoo boy. Things have changed. See the page VV. Club Racing Classes – Then and Now.

Beyond Racer Road, Part One

In the 1970s Cook Neilson and the late Phil Schilling went road racing, Cook riding with Phil tuning. They chronicled their adventures in a series of articles in Cycle magazine titled “Beyond Racer Road.” With Cook’s permission I have re-published the first of those articles. See the page VW. Beyond Racer Road 1 – the Toe Gets Dipped.

About Race Starts

Today’s story is about racing starts. Warning! The page contains spoilers of the recent Qatar MotoGP races, so if you’re still planning to watch the races DON’T read the page until afterwards. The rest of you can go to the page VZ. Racing Starts.

Evolution of Style Updated

My page about the Evolution of Style has generated numerous comments. One very detailed comment came from Steve McLaughin, one of the most respected racers at the time the hanging off style started. With his permission I’ve added his comments to the page. See WD. The Evolution of Style to read his contribution.

Changes in Style

Racing Styles have changed through the years. I was looking at some of my racing photos that spanned the years from 1973 to 1978 and noticed that my own style had changed. That prompted this week’s story. See the page The Evolution of Style.

The Allure of a Club Race

This week’s story is a nostalgia piece for me. It’s about the special allure of a club raceday back in 1974-1975 time frame. This will bring back memories from the folks who were there back in the day, and I hope it will give the younger folks and non-racers a bit of the feeling of the special excitement of a raceday. See the page WE. Raceday!

Q and A from reddit.com

Recently I was invited to an “Ask Me Anything” session on reddit.com’s Ducati sub-reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/Ducati/). I got a few questions and I’m re-publishing the good ones here. Most questions aren’t about Ducatis, so non-Ducati fans might be interested. It’s at the page WI. Ask me Anything.
